Sleephunting and You:
A Mileth Evidence Tutorial
So, you wanna learn how to sleephunt.
Err, wait, I started off wrong. Let me try again: so you want to learn how to catch sleephunters, huh? Well, you've come to the right place for a visual lesson on what evidence you need to grab to find someone guilty of such a crime. Please see below for details.
The first step to be a successful investigator is to ensure you have all the tools you'll need before you begin.
Go to your settings page (accessed by pressing F4 or going to the Red Eye>Settings) and ensure "Believe in magic" is turned on.
You should go ahead and ensure "Listen to whisper" is enabled while you're here.
Having both of these ON will enable you to not only see spells being casted, but also allow you to send and receive whispers as required by law.
You don't need to screenshot this as gathering the following screenshots will prove both of these are working; it'll just help you keep the process simple.
Now equip your uniform and begin your patrol.
Once you find someone you believe to be sleephunting, do the following:
1. STAY IN UNIFORM.
2. OPEN YOUR CHAT PANE (press F).
3. Place your mouse over the alleged sleephunter's head, to show their name.
4. Begin by taking a screenshot (press F12) that SHOWS THE PERP PERFORMING AN ACTION (notice how the peasant in this screenshot is slashing the poor, defenseless pig).
5. Open your Kru>Dark Ages folder. Find your screenshot and ENSURE you've taken a screenshot that includes all these things. If you don't fulfill all requirements, keep taking screenshots until you have it right. This covers Step #1 of the Sleephunting Procedure.
Take as long as you need! DON'T RUSH!
After you have the first screenshot, move onto the next step.
1. Open your ignore list (press F9, then ?). This will open a dialogue box.
2. Take a screenshot of this box.
3. Open your Kru>Dark Ages folder and ensure you grabbed the screenshot. This covers Step #2 of the Sleephunting Procedure.
This part is pretty easy! BREATHE! RELAX!
PROTIP: while there currently isn't any guidance on what to do if someone you're investigating is on your ignore list, it is highly advised that you take them off the list for the purposes of an investigation. You cannot gather the proper evidence without doing so.
Now work on Step #3 of the Sleephunting Procedure:
1. USING THE SUSPECT'S NAME, ask out loud (white text) if they are sleephunting.
2. Take a screenshot while you do this, or just after, and once again ensure you took the right screenshot by visiting your Kru>Dark Ages folder.
PROTIP: try very hard to include the suspect continuing their sleephunting actions in these screenshots. It'll make your investigation airtight.
Both of these screenshots technically show the same thing, but if you can get both, they definitively show a passage of time. This will help you fulfill Step #4 of the Sleephunting Procedure, especially if you're taking screenshots rather than video.
Include both in your evidence package if you can. :)
If you are video recording, this is where you'd sit and wait a few moments - especially if you're patrolling a dangerous area.
Finally, complete the investigation by repeating everything you just did, except this time in whispers. This is what I'll call Step #5a of the Sleephunting Procedure:
1. USING THE SUSPECT'S NAME, ask in a whisper if they are sleephunting.
2. Take a screenshot immediately after you do this.
3. Ensure you grabbed the screenshot(s) by visiting your Kru>Dark Ages folder (are we seeing a trend here?).
PROTIP: Your aim here is to take a screenshot while your whisper is still in your top bar, shown to the left. This isn't explicitly required by law, but will help you prove a passage of time in the next screenshot(s) and strengthen your evidence.
NOTE: if someone is ignoring YOU, this is where you're gonna figure it out. Instead of capturing a screenshot of you whispering them, capture this screenshot where you've tried and failed.
Once you've capture the screenshot above, immediately go to the mail pane (press W) and send them a mail. MAKE SURE THE SUBJECT LINE AND THE BODY OF THE MAIL ARE ASKING THE CORRECT LINE! Then take a screenshot as shown here to prove that you did all you could to get in touch.
Step #5b of the Sleephunting Procedure includes giving the suspect a few moments to respond, proving that they continued to sleephunt, and proving that you gave them long enough to respond.
1. Take a screenshot that shows them continuing to perform the sleephunting act.
2. Take a screenshot that somehow proves you waited.
3. ENSURE YOU GRABBED THESE SCREENSHOTS CORRECTLY. YOU'RE ALMOST FINISHED!
PROTIP: the screenshot that shows a passage of time may be any number of things, including you asking the person repeatedly to wake up or reminding them that they're being investigated.
Remember how I said your aim in the last step was to grab a screenshot of your whisper while it's still in the message bar? If you did that correctly, you can now take another screenshot here with the whisper gone from the message bar. It shows a guaranteed passage of time.
Once you've completed all these steps and have made SURE that you've gathered all the required evidence, you are now allowed to banish the player. You don't need any screenshots of this process, but you are required to add your report to the justice board within one moon (3.5 days) and forward your evidence to your superior for review.
Final notes: TRY TO KEEP YOUR MOUSE ON THE SUSPECT AT ALL TIMES AND KEEP YOUR CHAT PANE OPEN! STAY IN UNIFORM! DO NOT DO WHAT I'VE DONE IN THIS TUTORIAL AND ADULTERATE YOUR EVIDENCE IN ANY WAY, INCLUDING COMPRESSING IT OR CHANGING ITS FILE TYPE FOR EASIER MAIL/DISCORD TRANSFER. DOING SO WILL VOID ITS VALIDITY AND WE'LL KNOW YOU'VE DONE IT WHEN WE CHECK THE FILE'S WINDOWS PROPERTIES. ^.^
